Runcorn depot heist: thieves steal 70,000 pints of Guinness
British police are searching for about 70,000 pints of Guinness stolen from a depot near Liverpool. The theft is valued at 115,000 pounds, roughly $155,000.
Two trailer truckloads of the Irish stout were taken from an industrial park in Runcorn, northwest England, the Cheshire Constabulary said Thursday. The trailers held about 800 barrels of Guinness destined for pubs.
Police valued the trailers themselves at an estimated 50,000 pounds, about $67,000.
“It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for,” Det. Sgt. Gary McClatchy said. “We will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.”
The drivers pulled up Monday night and hauled the trailers away.
The Guinness theft comes weeks after a Southern California warehouse heist drew attention when roughly 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon were stolen. Police valued that theft at $70,000, and the brewer offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to recovery.
“To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way,” the company wrote on Instagram. “P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
