Valencia County deputies arrest Los Lunas man after chase

A Los Lunas man was arrested after Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies chased him down following a reported sighting by a neighbor. The man, 46-year-old Rashaun Thompson, now faces charges of resisting arrest, drug trafficking and drug possession.

The incident began July 31 when deputies went to Thompson’s home in Los Lunas to serve a warrant on behalf of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office. That warrant was for distributing drugs and possessing a gun as a felon. Thompson took off after authorities made their presence known.

While searching in and around the home, deputies noticed a way Thompson might have escaped. A neighbor soon called 911 saying they saw Thompson in their backyard hopping the fence.

“He was scared for his life,” Thompson said, after a VCSO deputy handcuffed him and asked why he ran.

After 20 minutes, deputies spotted him and the chase ended.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies found two guns, fentanyl, meth and a significant amount of cash inside the car and his home. A K9 helped complete the search after deputies executed a search warrant.

Thompson’s criminal records show two other cases pending in court with charges related to drug trafficking and possessing drugs. He has a scheduled arraignment in court next Wednesday.
