A Santa Fe man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the deadly shooting of his sister, according to police. Yasell Sandoval Sigala, 21, is accused of causing the death of Alexia Verdugo Sigala, 24, both of Santa Fe.
Officers were dispatched Sept. 5 at about 1:45 p.m. to a home near Rufina Street and Atocha Road on a report of an “accidental” shooting, Santa Fe Police said. They found Verdugo Sigala with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital, then airlifted to UNMH in Albuquerque, where she died.
Detectives learned Sandoval Sigala had allegedly discharged a rifle unintentionally and struck his sister in the torso, police said. He was interviewed, and the gun was seized as evidence.
