Albuquerque group hosts recovery art show for awareness

An Albuquerque volunteer group hosted an art show this month to mark National Recovery Month, featuring work by local artists drawing on their own experiences in recovery. The event highlighted art as one of several pathways people use to recover from alcohol and substance use disorders.

The show was organized by the Albuquerque Celebrates Recovery volunteer group.

“I think one of the beautiful things about recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders is that it can be so individualized, folks can find and seek meaningful experiences and recovery out of many different pathways. One of the pathways for many people is art,” event organizer Matison McCool said.

The show also featured live music, refreshments and gave attendees a chance to hear from some of the artists about their work.
