Albuquerque shoplifting suspect gets three years for 23 cases

An Albuquerque man accused in 23 cases of shoplifting was sentenced Monday to three years in prison. The case involved more than $8,000 worth of stolen merchandise, according to court records.

Mark Burchett, 44, was arrested last year after police connected him to the cases. Investigators identified him based on a pattern of stolen items and found he was trying to sell items on Facebook Marketplace.

At sentencing, Burchett addressed the court. “I want to personally express my remorse for my actions and the consequences that I caused. I understand that I am before the court because of my choices I made, and I take responsibility for those choices,” he said.

Judge Courtney Weaks imposed the three-year prison sentence.
