Man shot in face after argument at downtown Albuquerque roundabout

A man was shot in the face at a downtown Albuquerque roundabout early Sunday after an argument with two 18-year-olds, according to Albuquerque police. The two men now face charges including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The Albuquerque Police Department arrested Matthew Akugue and Isaiah Martinez in connection with the shooting, police said.

According to APD, Akugue and Martinez told police the man gave them “dirty looks,” and an argument started.

“According to Martinez, the man slapped Akugue,” police said.

After that, APD said the two got into a vehicle, pulled up to the man at the roundabout at Central Ave. and 8th St., and Martinez shot him.

APD said Akugue told police that Martinez shot the victim.

Through surveillance video and License Plate Readers, APD tracked the vehicle and made the arrests.

Akugue and Martinez are facing several charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
