Roel Lahi charged after 150-mile police chase into Albuquerque

Roel Lahi faces charges in Albuquerque following a 150-mile pursuit, according to a criminal complaint. The early Monday morning incident ended when deputies deployed non-lethal rounds. The pursuit began in Zuni and stretched across highways into Bernalillo County.

Deputies say Lahi shot at another driver before fleeing. Officers pursued him across 150 miles toward Albuquerque. He is accused of driving while intoxicated during the event.

Deputies used a spike strip to disable his car near Interstate 40 and Atrisco. The criminal complaint states that Lahi refused to give up immediately. He exited the disabled vehicle.

According to the complaint, Lahi displayed his middle finger to deputies. He reached for an unknown item. Fearing he held a gun, deputies fired bean bag rounds at him. They then deployed pepper balls.

Deputies say Lahi continued to ignore commands. More pepper balls were fired. He then followed orders.

A criminal complaint serves as the formal charging document in New Mexico district courts. It outlines the probable cause established by investigating officers during an arrest. Judges review these filings to determine subsequent conditions of release.

Lahi is charged with aggravated fleeing, DWI, and evading. He also faces charges of reckless driving and driving without a license in Albuquerque.
