Albuquerque police officers join kids for football game after noise complaint

Albuquerque police officers joined local children in a street scrimmage following a neighborhood noise complaint. The unusual response drew widespread public attention online. A neighbor filmed the interaction.

The call sent officers to the intersection of Copper Avenue and Juan Tabo Boulevard. A resident reported children playing outside and yelling at passing vehicles. The scene remained peaceful.

Children and parents told police they yelled at a car to slow down. They said the vehicle was speeding. No other emergency calls required attention at that moment.

Officers felt glad to see youths active outside. They stepped into the street to toss the ball around. Later, personnel stopped at a nearby Albuquerque park to shoot basketball hoops with another group.

Patrol officers routinely respond to neighborhood disturbance reports across city sectors. Personnel evaluate situations on arrival before deciding how to address complaints.

Footage of the impromptu match later circulated on Facebook. It earned widespread community interest.
