Albuquerque judge orders 18-year-old shooting suspect held without bail

An Albuquerque judge ordered 18-year-old Isaiah Martinez held without bail Friday after a detention hearing in which prosecutors outlined accusations that Martinez shot a man near downtown Albuquerque early Sunday. Martinez will remain in custody while awaiting trial, Judge Emeterio Rudolfo ruled.

Albuquerque police responded to downtown Albuquerque early Sunday after ShotSpotter technology detected 17 gunshots in the area, according to investigators.

Martinez and 18-year-old Matthew Akugue got into an argument with a man, police said.

Investigators say Martinez and Akugue got into a vehicle, pulled up to the man at the roundabout at Central Avenue and 8th Street, and Martinez shot him.

The man was left in critical condition.
