Albuquerque twin sisters’ film headed to national festival

An animated short film by twin sisters from Albuquerque has been selected for the All-American High School Film Festival in New York. Alissa Vigil and Anabela Vigil, graduates of Albuquerque High School, developed Quédate while participating in the Film, Animation, and Ethnic Studies programs at the Albuquerque Public Schools Career Enrichment Center.

The film follows three generations of women in 19th-century New Mexico as they navigate grief, family and acceptance. It is distinguished by its use of the dialectical Spanish native to northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

The All-American High School Film Festival is recognized as the world’s largest high school film festival. The sisters are raising funds to attend the festival in person.
