An art show in Albuquerque is highlighting local artists who use creativity as part of their own recovery journeys, an organizer said. The event marked National Recovery Month and was put on by the Albuquerque Celebrates Recovery volunteer group.
Matison McCool, an event organizer, said art is one of many paths people take in recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. “I think one of the beautiful things about recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders is that it can be so individualized, folks can find and seek meaningful experiences and recovery out of many different pathways,” McCool said.
The show also featured live music, refreshments and gave attendees a chance to hear from some of the artists about their work.
