Albuquerque art show honors recovery journeys

An Albuquerque volunteer group hosted an art show to mark National Recovery Month, featuring work tied to artists’ own paths through recovery. The Albuquerque Celebrates Recovery volunteer group organized the show, which highlighted local artists using art as a creative expression in their recovery journeys.

Event organizer Matison McCool said recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders can take many forms.

“I think one of the beautiful things about recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders is that it can be so individualized, folks can find and seek meaningful experiences and recovery out of many different pathways,” McCool said.

One of the pathways for many people is art.

The show also featured live music and refreshments and gave attendees a chance to hear from some of the artists about their work.
