NM ski resorts eye El Niño winter with optimism

New Mexico ski resorts are looking ahead to winter with early season optimism as a record strong El Niño develops. Forecast models hint at a wetter than average winter for the state, according to Grant Tosterud, KRQE chief meteorologist.

“The record strong El Niño developing will tilt our odds toward a wetter winter,” Tosterud said. Seasonal forecast models also point to above-average precipitation.

Ski Santa Fe is planning to upgrade and expand its snowmaking system. The resort is positioning itself for the season ahead.

A major project in Los Alamos County could also benefit Pajarito Mountain, according to Ski New Mexico.
