Valencia County deputies arrest Los Lunas man in drug trafficking case

Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Los Lunas man on drug trafficking charges after a foot chase in late July. The arrest of Rashaun Thompson, 46, came as deputies sought to serve a warrant from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to Thompson’s Los Lunas home on July 31 to serve the warrant, which was for distributing drugs and possessing a gun as a felon. Thompson fled as authorities made their presence known.

Deputies searched in and around the home for a way he might have escaped. A neighbor called 911 to report seeing Thompson in their backyard hopping the fence.

After 20 minutes, deputies spotted Thompson. As a deputy handcuffed him and began to question why he ran, Thompson said he was scared for his life.

According to court records, Thompson has two other pending cases with charges related to drug trafficking and possessing drugs.

Deputies served a search warrant and used a K9 to search a car and the home. Inside, deputies said they found two guns, fentanyl, meth, and a significant amount of cash.

Thompson faces charges of resisting arrest, trafficking and possessing drugs. He has a scheduled arraignment next Wednesday.
