Albuquerque twin sisters’ animated film heads to national festival

Two recent Albuquerque high school graduates will travel to New York after their animated short film was selected for a nationwide film festival. The film, Quédate, was chosen for the All-American High School Film Festival, recognized as the world’s largest high school film festival.

Twin sisters Alissa and Anabela Vigil developed Quédate while participating in the Film, Animation, and Ethnic Studies programs at Albuquerque Public Schools Career Enrichment Center.

The animated film explores the lives of three generations of women in 19th-century New Mexico as they navigate grief, family, and acceptance.

Quédate is distinguished by its use of the dialectical Spanish native to northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

The sisters, now Albuquerque High School graduates, are raising funds to attend the festival in person.
