Donald Trump canceled his planned trip to Tuscaloosa for a college football game on Saturday. The decision allows emergency responders to focus on Hurricane Isaias along the Gulf Coast. Severe weather approaches.
Trump announced the schedule adjustment in a public message on Truth Social. “Based on the fact that a huge Hurricane/Storm is coming, it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the President of the United States, ME!” Trump wrote.
Trump said he hopes the University of Georgia and University of Alabama game will proceed. He noted that he will visit both teams at a later date. Trump previously traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee, for the Texas-Tennessee game.
Trump confirmed he will still travel to Clarksville, Tennessee, for a weekend campaign event. “I will go to Tennessee, where we have quickly called a Big Rally in order to get our fantastic Congressional Candidates, our Great Senator, Bill Hagerty, and a woman who will go down as one of the most impactful Governors in the State’s History, Marsha Blackburn, elected!” Trump said.
Tropical storm warnings alert communities to expected sustained winds and heavy rainfall. Emergency management agencies direct local personnel to assist residents during severe weather threats.
Forecasters do not project Tuscaloosa to lie directly in the eye of the hurricane. The city remains under a storm warning.
