Cooler temperatures move across New Mexico through the week

Mostly sunny skies and calm conditions covered New Mexico to start the week. Readings began slightly above average with breezy winds. A few spotty showers fell across the far northwest corner of the state today. Those light showers also reached southwestern Colorado.

Dry conditions will persist across the state through the middle of the week. Cooler weather will return at the same time. Western areas will see lower readings Tuesday. A low pressure system will track toward the state.

Isolated showers will hit the northwest corner of New Mexico again on Tuesday. The cooler air will spread into central areas on Wednesday. Most of the state will stay dry through Wednesday afternoon.

A backdoor cold front will enter eastern New Mexico early Thursday morning. The front will push into central parts of the state by Thursday afternoon. Statewide readings will drop to seasonable or slightly below seasonable levels.

Cold fronts often bring sudden shifts in wind direction and air temperature across the region. Regional weather systems frequently change as seasonal patterns develop over the western states.

Winds will increase statewide on Friday. Rain chances will rise late Friday and last through the evening. Thunderstorms are also possible. Most rain will fall across southeastern New Mexico, with spotty showers reaching central areas.
