Michelle Lujan Grisham attends groundbreaking for Albuquerque housing project
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham joined local leaders Monday to start a new housing project in Albuquerque along Route 66. The workforce development will provide homes for families squeezed by high living costs.
Lujan Grisham and Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller held a groundbreaking ceremony for La Curva. The site sits on Central Avenue near Old Town. The project will add 70 homes for working households.
These units serve families who earn above traditional affordable housing limits. The governor spoke about the need for this development.
“The truth is, America got really far behind in investing in housing and making it clear we are going to work towards something that creates equality in housing and equity and choice for everyone, and New Mexico is leaning in hard.,” said Governor Lujan Grisham.
Workforce housing provides living spaces for workers near job centers. Developments often use phased construction. Phase 2 has not closed yet. It would add 70 more housing units in Albuquerque.
