An Albuquerque man was arrested and charged with murder after police said he fatally shot his son at a home on the city’s West Side. The shooting took place Sunday night on the 6200 block of Sabre Court NW, near 4th Street.
The Albuquerque Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the home for reports of a shooting, according to a news release.
Detectives arrested 64-year-old Mark Leib and accused him of killing his 34-year-old son, Matthew Leib.
Police said Matthew Leib was with his girlfriend and another friend at the house when Mark Leib returned from work, threatening to kill someone.
Matthew’s girlfriend got Mark to go to his bedroom, but he returned armed with a shotgun. She told police Mark punched her and threatened to kill her.
Matthew’s girlfriend and the other friend left the residence, then returned looking for Matthew. When they came back, Mark exited the house and said he killed Matthew. Police said Matthew died at the scene.
Mark Leib was arrested and charged with murder.
