Two fathers charged after violent fight at Albuquerque elementary school pickup

Two fathers face charges in Albuquerque following physical altercations at Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School during pickup times. The charges follow disputes that started over a parking lot situation, according to police.

A video from two weeks ago shows a grey car cutting off a white car. The grey car entered the parking lot through an exit. The driver of the grey car asked not to be identified.

She said the other driver hit her window and started cussing at her. A woman with that driver then approached the grey vehicle.

She pushed her into the vehicle, the woman said. She said the woman started hitting her inside her car. The mother stated that she fought back.

The conflict continued the next afternoon at the school. Her husband arrived to pick up their child and heard the other driver talking about her.

Racial slurs were used during the dispute, according to a criminal complaint. That same filing states the driver of the white car may have claimed to possess a gun.

Police intervened after the second incident in Albuquerque. Both fathers face charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with members of the general public.

The mother said school staff initially told the families to use different sides of campus. She said she is now moving her daughter to another school. She is also considering filing charges.

Public school districts enforce campus safety rules and can issue trespass notices against visitors. School staff and law enforcement officers respond together to manage traffic disputes on school grounds.

Albuquerque Public Schools called the actions unacceptable. The district said all four parents are banned from the Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School campus.
