Elon Musk gives $276M to Republican groups in Washington midterms effort
Billionaire Elon Musk gave $276 million to national Republican super PACs in Washington during the past three months. The massive cash surge lifts his total contributions for the current cycle to $366 million. He spent the money ahead of upcoming midterm races.
Federal campaign records reveal the vast scale of his recent donations. A spokesperson for his group verified the totals.
The money went to several major party entities between July and September:
- $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund
- $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund
- More than $76 million to America PAC
- $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC
- $10 million to the Republican Governors Association
- $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association
The Lone Star Liberty PAC backs Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton. The latest donations make Musk the largest known donor in the 2026 midterms.
“If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country. These robust investments have allowed the GOP apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history.”
That statement came from Andrew Romeo, a spokesman for America PAC. Romeo confirmed the figures.
Musk poured hundreds of millions into the 2024 presidential race for Donald Trump. He joined the campaign trail that year. He later led a White House cost-cutting effort called the Department of Government Efficiency.
That federal project launched sweeping job and funding cuts across agencies. Musk departed the White House in late May 2025. He experienced a public fallout with Trump. He stayed quiet for months.
Musk stated last May that he planned to spend far less on politics. He later told an interviewer in July that he got carried away. He admitted he had become too involved.
He reentered political spending that same month. Musk authorized his committee to spend up to $120 million on a field program. The effort focuses on conservative voter turnout.
Musk and Trump have repaired their alliance. Musk joined the president for a state visit to China in May. He also attended Chinese President Xi Jinping‘s state visit to Washington last month.
Federal super PACs are independent committees permitted to raise unlimited sums from individuals. These groups spend cash independently to advocate for or against political candidates.
Spokespeople for the Congressional Leadership Fund did not immediately return requests for comment. Representatives for the other recipient groups also did not comment.
