Police detained an unnamed individual following a Friday gunfire incident in Santa Fe that wounded a teenager. Emergency medical teams moved the juvenile victim to a trauma center with life-threatening gunshot injuries.
Officers responded around 2 a.m. to Coronado Condominiums at 2800 Cerrillos Road. They discovered a 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound at the complex.
The victim went to University of New Mexico Hospital for specialized care, Santa Fe Police said. Investigators conducted witness interviews and identified a person who fled the scene.
Officers found the person’s abandoned vehicle at 3:46 a.m. at an apartment complex on West Zia Road. The suspect fled on foot.
A search followed. Officers located the individual 30 minutes later and took them into custody.
Santa Fe detectives typically interview detained individuals before filing formal charges. Hospital staff evaluate critical trauma patients when life-threatening wounds require specialized medical facilities.
