Albuquerque lawyer Brian Pori has child porn charge dropped

An Albuquerque attorney had a federal child pornography charge against him dropped earlier this month, though he remains in custody on prison contraband charges that he still faces at trial.

Brian Pori was arrested in March at the Cibola Correctional Center near Grants, accused of trying to smuggle suboxone into that prison, according to federal court records.

After that arrest, the FBI searched Pori’s laptop. Investigators claimed they found dozens of illegal images of children on the device, according to court filings.

In May, a federal grand jury charged Pori with a single count of possessing child pornography.

Two months later, prosecutors told a judge there was a “change in posture” in the case. Prosecutors said they were waiting on “a final report from experts” tied to the possession charge but anticipated dropping it.

A judge signed off on a motion from the government earlier this month, dismissing the child porn charge against Pori. Pori remains in federal custody, awaiting trial on prison contraband charges.
