Body-camera video shows the wife of retired Air Force Major General William Neil McCasland telling Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies that his sudden disappearance was “completely out of the norm.” The footage captures the early moments after his family and friends realized something was wrong, more than four months after he was last seen in northeast Albuquerque.
“Completely out of the norm,” Susan McCasland told deputies. “I mean, you’ll see all over the house, preparations. He was going to a backcountry ski hut next week with 17 friends.”
McCasland was last seen around 11 a.m. on February 27 near Quail Run Court in northeast Albuquerque. Deputies believe the avid outdoorsman left his house on foot.
“He’s very, very active physically and has always had a very sharp mind,” Susan McCasland said. “He’s a retired Major General from the Air Force. He has a Ph.D. from MIT, and he’s been feeling brain fog.”
She told deputies he did not bring any clothes, that all his shoes were at the home, and that he intentionally turned off his phone before leaving. She said her husband took medication the night before and was acting differently the day he went missing.
Deputies spread throughout the Foothills while drones and helicopters searched for any sign of him. Despite weeks of searching, McCasland remains missing.
BCSO told KRQE News 13 that the case remains active and investigators are still asking anyone with information about McCasland’s disappearance to come forward.
