Man attacks bailiffs at Columbiana County Courthouse during sentencing

A man attacked two bailiffs at the Columbiana County Courthouse on Monday afternoon during his sentencing hearing. The bailiffs were injured in the assault inside the courthouse in Lisbon, Ohio.

The Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office released video of the incident. It shows Timothy J. Reaggle, 20, of Wellsville, escaping handcuffs and striking a bailiff in the face after his sentencing in a separate case, according to Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin.

McLaughlin said Reaggle took off running before taking another bailiff to the ground. The video then shows Reaggle sliding down the steps of the courthouse and running to the front door. He was stopped by deputies before he could escape.

Reaggle was being sentenced to one year in prison for a case dating back to Feb. 14, 2025. In July, Reaggle pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, failure to comply, and two misdemeanor counts of assault.

McLaughlin said Reaggle is in the Columbiana County Jail and will be transported to the state prison. McLaughlin said Reaggle awaits his indictment on new charges related to Monday’s incident. A court date has not been set.

McLaughlin did not provide any updates on the condition of the two bailiffs.
