A woman reported missing on Sept. 7 was found dead in Española on Sept. 10, the Santa Fe Police Department announced Wednesday. Clarissa Nicole Perez, 34, had no family in New Mexico and left the state with an unidentified man before her death, according to police.
Perez was reported missing by her mother. Her mother said her daughter told her she had left Texas with an unidentified man and was dropped off at a shelter in Santa Fe, the SFPD said.
Perez sent a text message on Sept. 4 saying she had received the money her mother sent her and was still in Santa Fe, police said. That was the last communication her family received from her.
The Española Police Department is leading the death investigation, the SFPD said.
