Albuquerque woman accused of fatal drunk driving crash will stay in jail

An Albuquerque woman accused of driving drunk and killing a passenger in a crash at a Southwest Side intersection will remain in custody pending trial. A judge ordered her held as the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office pursues charges in the collision.

Police said Lauren Lucero was driving on Atrisco Vista Boulevard and Dennis Chavez Boulevard when she failed to stop at a stop sign. The Bernalillo County District Attorney said she drove off the roadway and her car went airborne before slamming into a vehicle with four people inside.

Daisy Duenas was in the passenger seat when Lucero crashed into the car, according to the DA. Duenas suffered a head injury and died Tuesday night.

Investigators said Lucero’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.
