McKinley County names new DA to rebuild troubled office
A new district attorney has been appointed in McKinley County to lead an office that faced years of allegations of misconduct, staff departures, dropped cases and a growing backlog. The appointment comes after elected District Attorney Bernadine Martin resigned earlier this year rather than face a misconduct trial before the New Mexico Supreme Court.
Governor-appointed leadership is now tasked with cleaning up the aftermath and rebuilding an office that had lost the trust of its employees and the community.
