New Mexico Lions Clubs hold 2nd annual statewide food drive Character count: 57

New Mexico Lions Clubs held their second annual statewide food drive on Saturday, collecting food for local food banks and pantries across the state. Organizers said the effort is helping meet rising demand at community food providers serving New Mexico families.

Last year’s food drive collected nearly 10,000 food items. KR Scott of the Edgewood Lions Club said the need continues to grow.

“The increase of need is so great,” Scott said. “The statistics we’re getting from Feeding America is that one of every four children in New Mexico goes to bed hungry. One of every six families don’t have enough food to get through the day, so places like East Mountain Food Pantry are vital to keep our community alive and going.”

New Mexico’s Lions Clubs are part of the International Lions Service Organization, with several locations across the state.
