Runcorn police hunt thieves who stole 70,000 pints of Guinness (58 characters)

Police in northwest England are searching for thieves who stole two trailer truckloads of Guinness stout worth about 115,000 pounds ($155,000) from a depot near Liverpool. The stolen beer, roughly 800 barrels bound for pubs, was taken Monday night from an industrial park in Runcorn.

The theft was reported Thursday by Cheshire Constabulary. The trailers themselves were valued at 50,000 pounds ($67,000).

Det. Sgt. Gary McClatchy said investigators were working to track down the haul.

“It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for,” McClatchy said. “We will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.”

Two drivers pulled up to the industrial park and hauled away the trailers, according to police.
