Albuquerque man accused of stalking APD officer’s home
An Albuquerque man has been indicted on charges that he stalked an Albuquerque Police Department officer’s home while armed with an AR-style rifle. Kenneth Bair is accused of walking through the Ventana Ranch neighborhood on multiple occasions with the rifle, threatening the officer and the officer’s family.
According to investigators, Bair was captured on video in all-black military-style gear, taking videos of the neighborhood on his phone. Another time, Bair was in shorts but still visibly carrying the AR-style rifle and a sidearm on his hip.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office later filed an extreme risk firearm protection order to take away all six of Bair’s firearms, citing the investigation and claiming he has a bipolar diagnosis. Later this month, a judge is expected to rule on a request to take Bair’s guns away for one year.
Bair was indicted on two counts of aggravated stalking and one count of making a shooting threat, which are fourth-degree felonies. He remains behind bars while awaiting trial.
The night Bair was arrested, he spoke to deputies about his weapons.
“I’m pro police. I’m on your guy’s side. I don’t know what I did. I don’t know what’s going on,” Bair said.
Under arrest, Bair was compliant with deputies, telling them what they would find in his home.
“You’re going to find my guns in my house. Because I’m, you know, pro,” Bair said.
One deputy responded that it is not illegal to have guns. Bair then said they are all registered to him.
Bair’s questions quickly turned to asking about what would happen to his weapons.
“Are you going to take my guns?” Bair asked.
“I am not going to take the guns, no,” the deputy responded.
“Are they going to take the guns?” Bair asked.
The deputy told Bair he did not know the circumstances of the investigation.
“Like I said, I don’t know what the investigation is. I can tell you we can’t just take guns for no reason and hold them, but I don’t know all the circumstances surrounding the investigation,” the deputy said.
