Marisa Chavez arrested in Missouri in Albuquerque murder case

Marisa Chavez was arrested in Missouri on a warrant in an Albuquerque murder case. She is held in jail as a second person taken into custody for the 2023 death. Kansas City International Airport Police arrested her on Saturday.

Chavez was booked into the Platte County Detention Center. She remains held there.

Adam Duarate was killed at his casita on Mountain Road NW in Albuquerque. New Mexico court documents state Chavez and Bryan Perello are accused of killing Duarate at the home.

Court documents state Duarate was seen with Chavez, Perello, and several others earlier that night. The group was at an Albuquerque strip club.

Investigators believe Perello’s truck was at the casita when Duarte was killed. They said shoe prints found at the scene belong to sneakers from Perello and Chavez.

Perello was also arrested. His charges include:

  • First-degree murder
  • Conspiracy
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Shooting a dwelling or occupied building

Chavez is charged with an open count of murder and conspiracy. An open count of murder allows prosecutors to pursue different degrees of homicide at trial.

Extradition processes return suspects arrested in another state back to New Mexico.
