Alijah Archuleta will stay jailed in Albuquerque through his trial in a domestic shooting case. Judge Joseph Montaño granted the state motion to hold him without bond.
Archuleta is accused of shooting at his girlfriend on March 29. The woman told police that Archuleta refused to let her leave his car. Their one-year-old child was inside.
The woman escaped the vehicle. Police say Archuleta fired multiple rounds and returned to shoot again.
Albuquerque prosecutors stated this is the third charge filed against Archuleta this year. He had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on domestic violence charges. Defense lawyers argued the victim said the gun was not aimed at her or the baby.
Archuleta faces several charges:
- Two counts of aggravated assault
- Two counts of false imprisonment
- Child abuse
- Shooting from a motor vehicle
In New Mexico, judges conduct detention hearings to review community safety risks. Defendants stay jailed when courts find release conditions inadequate.
Archuleta remains detained in Albuquerque.
