Albuquerque man gets 3 years for 23 shoplifting cases

An Albuquerque man accused in 23 shoplifting cases was sentenced Monday to three years in prison. Mark Burchett, 44, was arrested last year after police connected him to nearly two dozen shoplifting cases totaling more than $8,000 worth of merchandise.

Investigators identified Burchett based on a pattern of stolen items and found he was trying to sell items on Facebook Marketplace.

During the hearing, Burchett addressed the court. “I want to personally express my remorse for my actions and the consequences that I caused,” he said. “I understand that I am before the court because of my choices I made, and I take responsibility for those choices.”

Judge Courtney Weaks handed down the three-year prison sentence.
