Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pursued a vehicle that held a wanted suspect, deputies said. The chase moved southbound along Highway 6. That vehicle stopped, and two men fled on foot.
Agents tried to capture the passenger near a building, deputies said. They attempted to box him in. One of the pursuit units struck the suspect.
The 48-year-old man was taken to a local hospital. His current medical condition is unknown. Deputies stated that they believe he suffered a broken leg.
The man remains under federal custody, according to deputies. The sheriff’s vehicular crimes unit is investigating the incident. Investigators will review surveillance video from the surrounding area.
Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones released a statement regarding the collision on Clay Road.
“I am horrified to learn that an ICE vehicle struck a man on Clay Road this morning in Precinct 4. While we wait to learn more, my prayers are with his family.”
Briones criticized federal operations and demanded that agents share records with local investigators. She called on the agency to cooperate fully with county authorities.
Vehicular crimes units typically investigate severe collisions on public roads to determine fault. These divisions review physical evidence and scene recordings. Findings are often shared with involved partner agencies.
Sheriff investigators continue to gather video evidence across Houston. Officials have not released the names of the men.
