New mug shot shows convicted sex offender Bill Cosby in Harrisburg

Convicted felon Bill Cosby appears in an updated state prison photograph taken in Harrisburg. The new image records physical changes as the inmate serves his sentence behind bars. The booking portrait shows him smiling with a disposable mask hanging off his face.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections recently updated the image. State staff routinely take new pictures to document inmate appearances. Cosby’s new photo was taken Sept. 4.

Cosby, 83, is serving a three- to 10-year prison term. He was convicted of felony sex assault. An appeals court previously upheld the conviction.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court agreed this year to review two key issues. That appeal is scheduled to be heard Dec. 1.

Later in the evening, a blurry picture was tweeted from Cosby’s verified account. The post showed him using what appeared to be a prison telephone. He pulled a mask away from his chin. He smiled.

Text accompanied the social media post.

“This photo was taken by his publicist, Andrew Wyatt, during his first virtual video conference call with Mr. Cosby last week. We are posting this to reassure his family and supporters that he is doing ok during this pandemic.”

Cosby was once known as “America’s Dad.” He became the first celebrity convicted of sexual misconduct in the #MeToo era. Jurors convicted him of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman near Philadelphia in 2004.

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections manages state prison facilities. The agency oversees inmate records and security operations. State correctional staff handle routine administrative updates across all state institutions.

Cosby remains held in the state prison system. Harrisburg officials maintain inmate records for all state facilities.
