City of Santa Fe warns residents of high river flows

Santa Fe municipal officials alerted community members about elevated water levels on the Santa Fe River. Recent rainfall and water treatment plant construction will keep local waterways running high through the week.

The Canyon Road Water Treatment Plant currently operates with reduced treatment capacity. Ongoing infrastructure construction at the facility limits processing operations. River flows will likely stay elevated across Santa Fe.

Drivers should use caution near all river and arroyo crossings. Crossings may be hazardous even when conditions appear manageable. Motorists must stay alert.

Mayor Michael J. Garcia said the rain strengthened the municipal water supply.

“At the same time, these conditions require us to remain vigilant. I ask everyone to take river and arroyo crossings seriously, slow down and look out for one another.”

Arroyos are dry creek channels that fill rapidly during heavy runoff. Water treatment facilities filter raw river water for municipal use. Utility crews manage excess volume during planned upgrades.

Residents in Santa Fe should avoid driving through moving water. Drivers must follow all posted warnings or closures. Be careful.
