Free legal fair in Albuquerque offers attorney consultations on Friday

Albuquerque residents can receive free legal consultations from attorneys during an upcoming fair on Friday. The event helps low-income New Mexicans get professional answers to civil and family law questions. Consultations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The Second Judicial District Court Pro Bono Committee and the New Mexico Legal Aid Volunteer Attorney Program host the Law-La-Palooza. The event takes place at the Greater Albuquerque Association of Realtors at 1635 University Blvd. NE.

“This is a great opportunity for New Mexicans with legal questions who cannot afford to hire an attorney to get answers from experienced family law and civil attorneys,” said Judge Jane C. Levy, co-chair of the Pro Bono Committee for the Second Judicial District Court.

Court Self-Help staff will also assist attendees with filling out court forms. The fair features separate morning and afternoon sessions.

The family law session runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. It covers several matters:

  • Divorce, child custody, and visitation
  • Child support and spousal support
  • Parentage and kinship guardianship

The civil law session runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. It covers additional topics:

  • Landlord and tenant disputes
  • Creditor and debtor issues
  • Wills, probate, and powers of attorney

Pro bono legal clinics offer guidance to people who cannot afford private legal representation. Court staff members help self-represented parties complete required legal documents properly. These programs provide vital civil resources across Albuquerque.

Staff will serve participants on site. Assistance remains free for all attendees.
