President Trump doubles down on California missile remarks in San Antonio

President Trump addressed his statements about potential Iranian missile strikes during a speech in San Antonio on Wednesday. California leaders previously criticized his initial comments about national security threats to western cities.

Trump addressed the crowd during a campaign appearance in Texas. “You want to see a horror show? Let them hit San Diego. Let them hit Los Angeles,” Trump said. He added that the country would not allow bad things to happen.

Trump previously spoke at a rally in Nebraska on Monday. State leaders responded quickly. He had suggested Iran could take out California cities.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom told The Hill on Tuesday that Trump was mentally ill. Newsom called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the remarks dangerous. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria stated the city was not collateral damage.

The White House rejected the criticism. White House communications director Steven Cheung posted on the social platform X on Tuesday.

“The media freakout over President Trump’s comments is not rooted in reality,” Cheung said. Cheung stated that America is safer because of the president.

The 25th Amendment outlines procedures regarding presidential succession and fitness for office. Campaign rallies allow candidates to present defense views to voters. Local mayors manage municipal services during federal security discussions.

Cheung noted that Iran possesses no nuclear weapons, navy, or air force. He stated the country cannot threaten cities like San Diego.
