Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller has declared September 17, 2026, Archbishop John Wester Day in the city. The announcement came during the 17th annual Blue Mass at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where community members gathered to honor first responders across New Mexico.
“Now, on behalf of the Mayor of Albuquerque, we declare together September 17th, 2026, Archbishop John Wester Day in the city of Albuquerque,” Keller said.
Wester has served the church since 1976 and became the 12th archbishop of Santa Fe in 2015. September 17 was named in his honor to recognize his impact on Albuquerque and beyond through his commitment to the community and advocacy for peace and social justice.
Wester has announced his retirement; the Pope has yet to name a replacement.
