Monsoon showers continue across New Mexico through the weekend

Showers and thunderstorms have spread across large parts of New Mexico on Wednesday, with widespread rain expected to continue through the afternoon, evening and overnight. Repeated rounds of heavy rain are possible across western and central New Mexico tonight.

Monsoon moisture will linger over the state on Thursday, bringing another round of scattered to widespread storms, especially across western and northern New Mexico and along the central mountain chain.

Rain chances will begin to decrease Friday and into the weekend as drier air moves into western New Mexico. Another backdoor front could bring increasing rain chances back to northeast and eastern New Mexico late Sunday into Monday.

Temperatures will hover near to below average across much of New Mexico through the weekend, with an overall cooling trend into early next week.
