La Plata County Road 329 closes after culvert failure
La Plata County Road 329 has closed indefinitely after a culvert failure washed out the road during heavy rain. The road sits east of Highway 151, south of Allison and east of Tiffany, according to county officials.
The road is about 45 minutes southeast of Durango and a few miles north of the New Mexico border.
“The closure is the result of a washed-out road caused by a failed culvert,” officials said in a Tuesday news release.
The La Plata County Road and Bridge Department will assess the damage to determine a timeline for repairs, officials said.
Drivers are asked to use caution as heavy rains remain in the forecast. The county urged motorists to avoid standing water, watch for mud and debris slides and slow down on slick roads.
County officials said free sandbags are available to residents on a self-serve basis to protect property from potential flood damage. Shovels may be provided, but residents are advised to bring their own.
The sand and bags are available 24 hours a day at three locations:
- La Plata County Fairgrounds, north lot near the rodeo arena, 2500 Main Ave., Durango.
- Upper Pine Fire Protection District Station 1, 75 South Clover Dr., Bayfield.
- Ignacio High School, 315 Ignacio St., Ignacio.
