Man accused of killing NM state troopers’ mother moved to MDC

A man accused of murdering the mother of two New Mexico State Police officers is now in the Metropolitan Detention Center. Luis Talamantes Romero faces a murder charge in the 2019 shooting death of Jacqueline Vigil.

Vigil was killed in her own driveway during an attempted robbery in November 2019, according to court records.

Romero is now at MDC after being transferred from federal custody.

The state case was delayed while U.S. attorneys prosecuted Talamantes Romero for being in the country illegally. He pleaded guilty in that case. A federal judge agreed to postpone his sentence in the federal case until the murder trial is complete.
