Garbage truck fire breaks out in northeast Albuquerque

An Albuquerque garbage truck caught fire Wednesday morning near Prospect and Comanche, according to Albuquerque Fire Rescue. Fire crews put out the flames with a hose within a few minutes after arriving at the scene.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the fire around 7 a.m., the department said.

The city’s Solid Waste Department said garbage truck fires have become more common nationally because of lithium-ion batteries and other flammable items being thrown in the trash.

Officials did not say what caused the fire.
