Gallup sees flash flooding Monday, more storms expected

Gallup experienced flash flooding Monday afternoon as monsoon storms swept across western New Mexico, with more storms forecast through the week. The National Weather Service is tracking widespread showers and thunderstorms that are expected to peak Wednesday and Thursday, keeping flood dangers in place across the region.

Deep monsoon moisture will remain over New Mexico through the rest of the week, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially near the Continental Divide and central mountain chain. Clouds and rain will also bring much cooler temperatures by week’s end, with highs several degrees below average across western and central New Mexico.

The wettest part of the week is still expected Wednesday and Thursday. Residents are being asked to drive with caution and to turn around if roads are flooded.
