Albuquerque man gets 3 years for 23 shoplifting cases

An Albuquerque man accused in 23 cases of shoplifting was sentenced to three years in prison. Mark Burchett, 44, was arrested last year in connection with the cases, which totaled more than $8,000 worth of merchandise.

Albuquerque police identified Burchett based on a pattern of stolen items and found he was trying to sell items on Facebook Marketplace, according to court testimony.

On Monday in court, Burchett showed remorse for his crimes.

“I want to personally express my remorse for my actions and the consequences that I caused. I understand that I am before the court because of my choices I made, and I take responsibility for those choices,” said Burchett.

Judge Courtney Weaks sentenced him to three years behind bars.
