One dead and several injured in Austell Six Flags coaster incident
A fatal roller coaster incident in Austell left one person dead and several others injured on Monday afternoon. Emergency workers responded to the Cobb County theme park following the ride emergency. Cobb County police reported the casualty figures.
The event occurred at Six Flags Over Georgia, according to the Cobb County Police Department. The park sits about 15 miles northwest of Atlanta. Officials did not confirm how the person died. They also did not state what caused the other injuries.
A Six Flags spokesperson said park staff and local responders acted immediately. The company is cooperating with local authorities during the investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said.
The company faced separate legal actions in California last month. Six Flags Magic Mountain announced plans to retire its X2 roller coaster. Lawsuits alleged serious brain injuries from that ride. Six Flags recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit from the family of a 22-year-old man. The man died in 2022. Three additional lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed last week.
Theme parks in Austell must coordinate with local police departments during ride emergencies. Investigators review mechanical systems to determine causes of ride incidents. State and local safety teams inspect equipment during inquiries.
Police have not released additional details about the incident in Georgia. The investigation remains active.
