Two people injured in Albuquerque apartment explosion, fire officials say

Emergency crews responded to a blast in an Albuquerque residential complex on Saturday. Two victims suffered harm from the incident and required medical attention. Crews evacuated the entire building immediately.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue units arrived at the scene around 1:30 p.m. The location was 12899 Central Avenue Northeast, near I-40. The area sits southeast of Albuquerque. Multiple units suffered damage.

Two people sustained injuries from the blast, AFR said. Responders took one patient to the hospital. The second person received on-scene evaluation. Medics released that person.

New Mexico Gas Company secured gas to the structure, AFR said. The Albuquerque Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the site. The bomb squad coordinated with AFR Fire Investigators.

Fire investigators assess physical damage to discover blast sources. They check utility connections and structural integrity. Special police squads assist when blasts cause widespread destruction.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, AFR said on Saturday. The incident remains under active review in Albuquerque.
