Gusty conditions and showers will return to parts of New Mexico this weekend. The shifting weather pattern will create gustier conditions and rain chances around the Albuquerque metro.
Saturday morning brought mild weather across the state. Low temperatures bottomed out in the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. Clouds will increase across the region through the second half of Saturday.
Winds will pick up during Saturday afternoon. Wind gusts may range between 15 and 25 mph statewide and in Albuquerque. Stronger gusts may persist near isolated showers and storms across western New Mexico, the northern mountains and southwest Colorado.
Upper-level winds will increase over the state on Sunday. Wind gusts may range from 20 to 45 mph across the region. Stronger gusts will stay focused across western areas. Another round of showers and storms will impact western sections, southwest Colorado and the northern mountains.
Some locations could receive rainfall totals that exceed a quarter of an inch. Weekend high temperatures will stay in the 70s and 80s for most residents. Breezy conditions will then linger into the first two days of the workweek.
An incoming low-pressure system is driving these higher winds. Stronger upper-level winds will also contribute to the breezy conditions across the region. Gustier winds aloft may impact Balloon Fiesta morning festivities on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday evening fiesta events face a chance for light rain. Winds will ease off during that time. Weather patterns shift quickly during seasonal transitions in Albuquerque.
Conditions will remain breezy across the state through early next week.
