A 42-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon near Rio Rancho in a two-vehicle collision. The wreck also sent her female passenger to a hospital. Heavy rain contributed to the deadly incident.
New Mexico State Police responded just before 3 p.m. Officers arrived on US 550 near Rio Rancho. They answered reports of a wreck involving a semi-truck and an SUV.
The semi lost control. It crossed lanes into oncoming traffic. The commercial truck then hit the SUV.
The 42-year-old driver died at the scene. Her 32-year-old passenger suffered injuries. Emergency crews took her to a hospital. Her current condition remains unknown.
